He has over 15 years of experience in the field of sustainable building design, building services systems, smart building solutions, carbon neutrality strategy and green building certification. He also has extensive experience in the application of advanced analytical methods for improving the environmental and energy performance of buildings in particular Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), energy modeling, radiance, IES to enhance wind microclimate, natural ventilation, daylight provision, thermal and visual comfort, solar heat gain, air pollutant and heat emission, etc. Henry was awarded with HKIE Innovation Awards for Young Members – Certificate of Merit in 2019 to recognize his research works in the industry. |
Mr Benny Au is currently the Senior Manager, Sustainable Development of Swire Properties Ltd. He is responsible for enhancing the company's building sustainability performance. He started his career as a building services engineer and then shifted his career path to environmental discipline. He previously worked with consultants, contractors and property management companies which provided him the knowledge on building construction and operation in regarding to the sustainability aspects throughout the building life cycle. Peter Chan is a qualified LEED AP, BEAM Pro and building specialist consultant with over 23 years of experience in leading and project managing numerous sustainability assignments related to the built environment. These include: providing "green" building design and management advice for over 100 BEAM assessed properties; formulating sustainable building design options for 30 developments to achieve the superior BEAM/LEED Platinum rating; developing environmental management systems for 5 organisations which subsequently achieved ISO 14001 certification; conducting life cycle impact and life cycle costing analysis projects; and undertaking energy audits. |
Thomas is a chartered environmental engineer with 24-years local and overseas professional experience in various business sectors that include environmental consultancy, sustainability reporting & carbon audit, waste treatment facility operation, and civil & building construction management etc.Thomas is Fellow Member of several professional institutions which include Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE) in Energy and Environmental disciplines, The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (FCIWEM, UK), The Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (FIEMA, UK), and The Hong Kong Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment (FHKIEIA). He is also a BEAM Pro and LEED AP (BD+C, ID+C, O+M). |
Professor Edwin Chan studied Architecture in England and then learnt Law in London and Hong Kong. He obtained his PhD degree at the Kings College of London University. He is a Chartered Architect and Surveyor and is a qualified Barrister-at-Law called to both the English and Hong Kong Bars. He has carried out a wide range of research relating to urban development including: Sustainable urban development and Urban renewal/ heritage conservation; Low carbon cities; Healthy/Green building; Institutional analysis for building energy efficiency and transaction costs; Dispute resolution model; and Community issues. He has published his work in over 150 international journal papers and many book chapters. He serves as an editor or editorial board member of several research journals and has edited many books related to his research. To enrich teaching/research that is relevant to industry, he plays active roles in professional bodies and serves a number of government boards/ committees, including the Town Planning Board and the Housing Authority. He was the Hon. Secretary of the Professional Green Building Council (2005-2006) and a council member since, and the Treasurer of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (2006-2008). Recently, he has focused his research efforts on sustainability issues in urban renewal and governance, as well as policies for low carbon cities and the promotion of energy efficient buildings. |
Ir Dr Chan graduated with a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002, a M.Sc in Environmental Engineering in 2003, and later obtained his MBA with distinction and PhD in Public Policy in 2011 and 2019 respectively. Ir Dr Chan started his engineering career in 2003 by joining the HKIE accredited Scheme “A” training programme in the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) as an Environmental Engineering Graduate (EEG). He is now a corporate member of the HKIE and Engineering Supervisor for the EEGs in the department. An Environmental Engineer by profession, Ir Dr Chan has more than two decades’ experience in the field, ranging from enforcing the main anti-pollution laws, project management for waste facilities including strategic landfills, restored landfills and the Chemical Waste Treatment Centre, as well as formulating waste-related policies and implementing programmes to meet environmental sustainability goals. Currently, as a Senior Environmental Protection Officer in the Waste Management Division of the EPD, Ir Dr Chan is responsible for the implementation of the regulation on disposable plastic tableware and other plastic products and the provision of collection and recycling services of plastic recyclable materials in the territory, with a view to building a circular economy and a sustainable green living environment in Hong Kong. |
Dr. Hon-fai (HF) Chan has over 35 years of broad and extensive experience in environmental management and planning. He had worked in the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Agency/Department for more than five years before he set up ENPAC Limited (an environmental consultancy) in 1987 (which was subsequently acquired by Maunsell-Grontmij group in 1998). In 2002, he set up CINOTECH Consultants Limited (an environmental consultancy firm) and is operating it as its Managing Director since then. Dr Chan has been Project Director or Project Manager of (a) Environmental Impact Assessment projects for major infrastructure development and strategic planning projects, e.g. Kai Tak Multi-purpose Sports Complex, South East Kowloon Feasibility Study ($20M), Update on Cumulative Water Quality and Hydrological Effect of Coastal Developments and Upgrading of Assessment Tool ($14M), (b) high-profile environmental projects, e.g. Multi-purpose Sports Complex at Kai Tak, Cyberport Development, Tonggu Channel of Shenzhen Port, Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse Odour Control Study, Shenzhen River Regulation; and (c) controversial and sensitive environmental projects e.g. Sha Lo Tung Development, Kai Tak Airport Dr Chan has also considerable experience in cross-border liaison. He has been advisor to Shenzhen Urban Infrastructure Administration in the mid 90s on the development of solid waste management. In addition, Dr Chan has extensive experience in working with the Advisory Council on the Environment, District Councils and local pressure groups and communities, drawing on his many years of experience, both in the government and private practice. Apart from his professional services, Dr Chan also participates extensively in community services and delivers regular lectures to local universities. He also represents government and private clients as expert witness in Magistrates and District Court on environmental issues. |
